JFK 50 years later

In this story I learned about what Luci Baines Johnson did on November 22, 1963, the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The story starts with the Luci at school when she hears about it. Her school meets for an assembly to find out the tragic thing that has just took place. She is then taken home by secret service members and she waits for her father and mother to return, but she is traumatized by what is going on, and doesn't remember much from that day.

It then goes on to talking about her family moving into the white house, and the hardship her family went through after JFK had been assassinated. She talks about how stressed her father and mother got taking over the duties of the president, and how she basically had to cope with stuff by herself because her parents were busy. Then she talks about how the assassination buried her childhood.

Thanksgiving Story

This Thanksgiving was very fun, but quiet normal. It started on Tuesday and didn't end until Sunday night.

It started on Tuesday right when i got home from school. My brother Noel came in from kyle, to go shopping with my mother while me and my other brother Manuel stay home to clean with my sisters Oralia and Adrianna. Tuesday was just gathering food and making sure the house was clean for Thursday.

Wednesday was a bit of a surprise when my other brother Carlos, who lives in Houston, surprised us by showing up earlier than we thought. The rest of that day was spent cooking and preparing things for Thanksgiving, but since Carlos showed up we all sat down and watched movies. Since my niece and nephew were their we watched Planes and Turbo, the Disney movies.

On Thanksgiving Day we were all up at 8 a.m to finish up the food and our family started showing up at around 10 a.m. We had our Thanksgiving early because my brother and sister had to go into work at 1 p.m. My aunt Patricia showed up first, like she always does, with her family she likes to get there early so that she can get the first batch of deviled eggs. After her, some family friends came over, Mario brought pecan pie, and Tyron brought peach cobbler. The last ones to show up were my Uncle Erik who brought along my cousin Brandon, they stayed for about an hour before everybody started leaving. When the time came to eat, all the food had been ready. We had Turkey, corn, rice, dressing, homemade gravy, cornbread, rolls, and glazed ham. Before we ate though we had to say grace, and since we were going in order of my family it was my turn to say grace, I was completely caught off guard and said maybe the worst grace ever, but it was still a good day.

The second half of Wednesday I was watching my cousins Jesse and Nancy, my niece Crystal, and my nephew Gabriel while my mother went to bingo with my aunt, and my sister-in-law started Black Friday shopping early. We were playing the xbox for about and hour before we watched Turbo for about the sixth time that day, but i didn't really mind. Once 10 p.m hit my brother Noel got off work and my mom got back from bingo, so i could go Black Friday shopping to, most of the time was spent at Barton Creek mall with my brothers. We bought a couple of shirts, Noel bought a watch, Carlos bought some stuff for his new apartment in Houston, and Manuel was doing some early Christmas shopping. I was just along for the ride. At about 2 a.m we moved to party over to Best Buy where Noel bought himself an Xbox One and Carlos bought some movies. The best part for me though was when we were leaving my sister surprised me with a Nintendo 3Ds that she bought for me early in the day. The night/ morning ended with everybody getting home at around 4 a.m and falling asleep, except for me because I was excited about the DS which i played for about an hour before i fell asleep.

When i woke up later that day Manuel went to work, Noel had left back to kyle, and Carlos was in the living room with my sisters and mother. They were getting ready to go eat and asked if i wanted to tag along. I went with them to go eat pizza with them and bought my DS with me to play with it more. After we ate we went back to the house to watch movies. On the way back my DS got low on battery, so when we got home i went inside wanting to charge it, but when i went to put it on i couldn't find it. When i told my mom she said that Noel took it by accident when he was packing up, so for the rest of Friday i just got on the computer and played Minecraft with some friends from school.

Saturday I we met up with Noel so i could get my charger back, and after that i spent the day at my friend Fernando's house. He also got an Xbox One on Friday with the game Deadrising 3 and we played that and League of Legends all day. Later that day Mario came over Fernando's house as well and we went and got some pizza, played more games, then crashed for the night.

On Sunday Carlos was going back to Houston, but before that he wanted to go bowling and our cousin wanted to play laser tag, so we went to Main Event. When we got their we started bowling and my cousin went to play, the game was close the entire time until the end when i choked like Lebron in the 4th and lost by 20 points :/ . Then when we were about to leave we noticed a rock climbing area, and we thought "why not" did that for about 2 hours. After that my brother dropped me off at home and went back to Houston. Even though it was such a good day, it was made even better when Manuel and I started watching The Walking Dead, it was an extremely good episode and a good way to end the break.

Gun Control
Gun control, it's a very touchy subject in the United States right now. There have been multiple shooting this year all over the state. Some shootings have been extremely tragic with multiple casualties. To help with this problem the government is trying to put more restrictions on guns. I believe that this will not make things better in the long run.

With these restrictions the government will have all the innocent law abiding citizens defenseless. While people are not allowed to buy or carry fire arms because the law says they can't, the criminals who already don't follow the law will do what they want, putting the people in more danger.

Some may argue that's what the police is for, but the problem there is that when you call the police there is waiting involved, and even when the police show up it's still not the end of it because by then their could have multiple casualties already or the shooter takes hostages and police can't really do anything. However if their was a citizen with fire arm he could have taken out the shooter when the situation first started and there would be less death and mayhem.

I can see how lowering the people with guns can lower the chances of shooting and if they add a lot of requirements their would be less crazy people buying guns. This could also lower the shootings exponentially.

However as i stated earlier, the criminals are not abiding the law from the start, and they will find some way to find some sort of fire arm and it will still end badly for the citizens of this country. Which is why I am against gun control.

2nd Opinions Piece

Fast Food
Fast food one of this nations biggest bad guy right now. Fast food is a meal you get on the go, that is affordable, quick, and pretty darn good. The only problem is that a lot of the fast food out there is not very healthy. As a matter of fact fast food has been blamed for the rise in Obesity in the United States. However with how fast paced this world has become fast food needs to be a there for the people who have no time to slow down.

Fast food places are not forcing you to come eat at their establishments. It's not forcing its food down your throat, you are choosing to go eat at these places. If you choose to eat at places where their food is high in fat and then blame the them for you getting obese is just ridiculous.

With how fast paced this world has become Fast food place have become almost necessary because, people need to eat and with lunch breaks lasting 30 minutes to an hour nobody has time to go all the way home and prepare a meal.

Also with all the homeless and low income families fast food is an affordable meal. Even though fast food is not very good for, if someone had the choice to choose between eating out of the garbage or eating food that isn't the best for them, they would eat fast food everyday.

Granted if the fast food establishments would spend time making their food healthier or maybe change the serving sizes to minimize the calories their wouldn't be as many arguments about the healthiness of their food. I also understand that with their are other countries with the same fast food places that make their food a lot healthier than we do in the United States.

However fast food has a lot more pros than cons, With it being affordable, fast, and pretty darn tasty. Ya their is some stuff they could change, but it is works out for the people who need it right now.

1.  I feel that this type of behavior is childish and some what abusive. It is a professional league not some middle school locker room. I feel Incognito should be suspended because he threatened Martin with physical violence. On the other hand Martin should not have just sat around and let himself get abused by Incognito, he could have reported him to his manger or just stayed away from the guy. In the end Incognito was not acting like a professional athlete, but like a child in school making fun of the new kid.

Personal Essays

1. What was one idea that the writer gave in the Wide Range of Topics section that you can use as you start deciding on a topic?Conversational topics that get you excited, or news stories that make your blood boil or get you laughing out loud, are likely to be provide good fodder for essays.

3. List three suggestions the writer makes in the Personal Essays and Crafts section that you will use as you write.
  • No extra points for the number of facts you include. Academic essays contain more facts than opinion, personal essays contain more opinion than facts. But ensure the facts you use are accurate. Check names, spellings, numbers. Two sources of confirmation are better than one.
  • Writing essays in a great way to get your opinions off your chest, but avoid philosophical rants which make no connection to your reader’s experience. Again, keep it personal while relating to a wider world.
  • A strong statement that your essay will either support or dispute. (“If you eat enough cabbage, you’ll never get cancer.”)

My Top Stories of the Century

On October 29, 1929 The Wall Street stock market crashed. The crash marked the beginning of the Great Depression. Stocks started to rise again just as World War II started.

On April 26, 1986 a catastrophic nuclear accident occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Ukraine.  It was caused by an unexpected power surge, that caused the reactors to explode. The explosion let out a highly radioactive fallout that drifted over three countries.

I consider the Chernobyl disaster to be one of the most interesting events of the 1900's because it is known one of the worst nuclear disasters ever. The radiation is still effecting people today. Also the area where the explosion happened is still to radioactive to  be around today.

On December 7, 1941 during World War II there was a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii by the Japanese. Their were multiple casualties. This attack was the reason the U.S enter the war.

When he ask the pigs with the straw and stick house if he could come in they denied him entrance. When they did that he destroyed their houses by blowing them down, then he proceeded to eat the pigs.

After many failed attempts the wolf tried to enter the house through the chimney and when he was coming in the pig put a pot of boiling water in the fireplace then, the wolf fell in and was eaten by the pig.
